heyhey people! im back to blog here =) so basically today we had the Music Appreciation Workshop, planned and fully run by Mr Dzul and his friends. I think it was really successful and we should thank all of them. So now J2's good luck for your common tests, hope u'll get yr desired grades and then come back and be prepared for the full blast of practice for SYF. J1's do treasure yr practice without the j2's because you can grab the chance to ask Mr Dzul all about playin the angklung etc etc. Hope you all can benefit and play better when we join you all again!
Speaking about SYF, some of you may not have had the experience of taking part in SYF before. Simply want to share some little stuff. SYF is a very important competition for all the performing arts group. If anyone of you think that you are insignificant and your prescence does not make a difference, you are absolutely wrong. Everyone matters, we are accountable for each other, we are not lone rangers, we are team players. We improve as a whole ensemble, we cannot improve alone. Set aside some time and think, are you takin part in SYF for the nice cert that you want to have? if that is the case, please change that mindset. As what Mr Dzul said today, its the passion. the passion for playing. it may sound ridiculous, but if you play for the sake of playing, u're just letting everyone down. As ive said again & again, and the teachers have mentioned it for countless times, its the team. We work as a team.
Our goal this year is gold with honors. whether isit possible its all up to us. Its always good to aim high. because you'll work for it. Trust me this SYF experience be it your first or your last will sure make a difference. Just to share, ive been through two SYf's. the last one hit me real hard. real real hard. Both times were with a different group of people. Both times left me with different feelings and reflections. The second one, with the strong desire to maintain the previous standard, we set all out. However, we failed to achieve our goal. We aimed high but failed to reach it. Partly i feel was due to the lack of desire, the burning desire in the team to achieve the common goal. i'll leave out the details, but the learnin point ive got is everyone, each and everyone has to have the same strong burning desire to achieve the target set. If not targets are just useless if only some people want it. If the goal to achieve Gold wif honors is jus the exco's the teacher's and Mr Dzul's, its insufficient.
somehow everyone has to have the same burning desire.sounds like im crapping but its jus what i feel.two yrs in college u only get one chance at SYF. its yr last chance at SYF.no more after this.Treasure it, give it your all, nothing to lose when you give it your all, better than not and then later on regret. I hope that this post makes sense.
The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.Arthur C. Clarke.
Dont tink that the goal is impossible, have a positive and optimistic attitude, venture into the impossible to look for the limit of possible.
i may be fierce during practices but if you guys have any stuff which you tink will help everyone, feel free to tell me, or if u realli dislike me so much talk to the excos. alright see you guys at the next practice =)

Hello everyone....first and foremost, congratulations to all JC1s for your excellent results. For those who did'nt do as well as you had expected, no worries....there are plenty more opportunities to excel. Do hope that all of you (JC1 ) decide to stay in NJC and be a part of NJC Angklung Ensemble. Once again, congrats to all.
We are planning to hold a Music appreciation workshop for all our current members ( if super seniors want to attend then I think we are ok with it too). The aim of this workshop is to introduce Music to all of you. Not only music but most importantly, how to
appreciate and "feel" the music. There will be physical activities involved during the workshops and some guests speakers and performers will be present too.
We hope that after this workshop, all of us will be able to appreciate the music that we are listening or playing. And most importantly, we will be able to transmit the new found feeling into the way we play our Angklung and thus making our practice session more enjoyable and our music more "soulful" and alive.
The workshop is schedule to take place on the 24th February during or Saturday practice. As of now, we are still trying to get a suitable venue that enable us to carry out the activities efficiently.
So, clear your calendar for that day(in fact you should have cleared it since last year!!). Attendance is compulsory for all cos, we are only as strong as our weakest link...so, there is no point if even 1 is absent cos in Angklung, everyone makes a difference.
So, will update you guys again on the workshop.
Cheers

I personally believed that all members, seniors and juniors, did a good job today in interacting with our guests from Tianjin No 1 High (or Middle) School.
I was pleased with the way you people persisted although there was some language barriers, like some of our guests could not pronounce "Angklung" properly or when Justine asked a male guest to introduce himself, she called him a "nan hai" (boy) instead of "nan sheng" (guy).
Perhaps next time we should learn how to translate terms like "Angklung", "Kolintang" and "chords" into Mandarin before we embark on other enrichment activities for Chinese guests in the future.
On behalf of the college, especially the teachers who are in charge of entertaining the guests, I would like to thank all of you for spending your Monday afternoon bringing fun and enjoyment to the guests.
I can sense that the guests really enjoyed themselves. All of you have done well. No wonder the school keep inviting us to entertain guests.
Hello everyone, on behalf of the college, I would like to express our sincere thanks on your performance during the Misaki High School visit. Once again you've proven that Angklung deserved the invites and belonged to the "core" CCA in NJC. You guys put up a stirling performance and I'm sure the guests, the school management and the accompanying teachers enjoyed the session.
Always remember, it is us ( the members, instructors, teachers) that shape the Angklung Ensemble. It is us that determine what others percieve of NJC Angklung Ensemble. So, guys, thank you for great performanve and cheers to more invites....
To add to the above,I.....truly enjoyed the Saturday practice. The songs are coming into shape. I'm sure the percussionist in particular had enjoyed themselves tremendously learning the art of playing gendang with the maestro himself ie Mr Yaziz. Thanks to Mr Zul, Mr Yaziz came down to assess and guide you guys on the finer points of playing the Gendang and by now, I'm sure you are more aware of the capabilities of the gendang. Like he said, you guys can play but you just need to boost up your confidence and recognise the different tome of the gendang and most importantly, feel for the music that youu are playing....
Lastly, to the JC 1s who are reading this.....hope that this 3 weeks have been enjoyable for you guys. And hope that during this 3 weeks, you are more certain of joining us and be a part of us. Always remember, the decision is yours and be responsible for your own decision.....Hope to see you guys donning NJC colours and playing the Angklung /Kolintang with the NJC Angklung Ensemble.
Good luck for the Tianjin Enrichment!!!!!
