We are a group of carefree students who have gathered together,
regardless of bawahs, normals, atas, kulintang and percussions
to create music like none other with our conductor, Mr Dzul. :D

Wow, Didn't think i can actually post here. I am an ex-member. Good effort in the blog. All the best for the upcoming SYF!
Good job yesterday at SCH! I think the acoustics was very good (and so every sound made is very clearly heard, including those noises when one lifts or changes angklungs).
Justine reminded me to go to KM to endorse the Tianjin programme write up she posted. However just now when I was in KM I found that one of the organisers did not update her profile, hence I was unable to endorse.
If you need a teacher to endorse your write up on KM, then it is your initiative to inform the teacher in charge.
And I also noticed that the new members have not yet added their names to the members profile list on the KM Angklung webpage. Please do so as soon as possible.
The photos and the video will be uploaded there soon. Watch out for them!
I took these pictures on V-day. I just downloaded these from my handphone and though it's quite some time ago I shall post them anyway.
Cutting birthday cake for Mr Dzul. Ermm...taking rather long to cut... The back of a pig! The percussionists. Ermm somebody looks shy... Caught her! =D
The JC1s practising. The heart I bought from Interact club that day. Wondered who is the lucky girl who ended up with it? Mr Dzul showing the beats.
Please be punctual this Saturday. There will be consequences, besides the $2 fine.
Hi guys, by now you should already know that our SYF is on 26 April Thursday. We are scheduled to perform at 12pm. since there are only 2 JC/CI, we will kick it off first and MI will close the morning session after us. The results will be announced right after that. Before us, there will be all the other secondary schools performances. There are altogether 17 Secondary schools taking part and the first school will perform at 8 am.
Another important factor to take note is that, we might be the last peformance group in SYF. What does this mean? This simply means that, all other CCAs would have gone through their SYF and received their results. So, be prepared for all these as come April and SYF kick off, morning assembly will be filled up with announcement of achievements and accolades. You will feel the heat and my advise is to remain focus and not get distracted by whatever other CCAs had achieved. We know what we want and we work towards it...thats the most important thing.
For seniors reading this, I have 10 tix with me. The tickets will allow you to watch all the performances on that day from 8 am onwards. If you plan to go at that time ie 8 am, there will be tickets issued there too on first come first serve basis. So, keep your 26 April free and go in the morning, grab the tickets and enjoy watching half a day of quality Angklung performances.
Do indicate to me if u want the tix by tagging on this blog but it would be better if spome could go in the morning to get the tix there at SCH.
selection has been done....those who are chosen, its an additional task for you (as wat mr fuad said).. those who are not chosen, dont be disheartened, u are still part of the ensemble. I tink many people hv said this, ur pres, ur excos, ur teachers and myself...but i'm sure u understand. Like i said on tue, the standard for this year's SYF central judging is high compared to the previous yr in 2005. This is a challenge for all of us...and we will not rest nor surrender until we achieve our goal. The worst feeling to hv after the result is knowing that we hv not done enuf.... therefore...from now onwards...lets move into full gear and no matter wat the result we may get, as long as we know that we have done and try the very best. Cheers!
Hi all, Im sure u guys felt the difference as we practice more these few days. Keep up the good work, be consistent so that effort will not be wasted. Sometimes, i feel that we are inconsistent and we waste alot of time because of that. As in we have to revisit that portion of the song again and again and again. Try to remember whats said during practices, pull longer, join up the notes etc the same problems are surfacing! Time isnt exactly on our side, not much time left to practice already! Make use of each session well =)
Well, as for auditions, i would like to say that no matter whether you are playing on stage, or as a reserve or not taking part in syf at all, we are still the NJC ANGKLUNG ENSEMBLE. i'll congratulate those who made it to the main team in advance, there is still more room for improvements, its time to put in your 100% . It's a privilege to be able to represent the school =) Next to those who are reserves, do not feel upset. U guys are very and i mean it very important too. It's not that we dont want u in, just because of rules to abide by, there is a maximum no of people that we can take for SYF. don forget, its veri crucial for u guys to be around, because u've got to know everyone's part well jus in case. unpredictable things may happen. And for those who did not make it for SYF, don be disheartened. There are many more other chances for u all to shine, public performances, school performance and concert ( prolly next year ) u c! ample of chances along yr way.
to all the j1's, u've got a long way to go. approximately 1 and 1/2 more yrs in college in Angklung Ensemble, dont worry we've got enough chances for you to shine. J2's , this is the very very important competition. The one we've been trainin so hard for. don let our efforts go to waste. Its jus abit more and we're there. We've got to work hard as a whole, im sure we'll catch the whole feel right soon!
This is to show the newer members the collaboration between Angklung and the Malay Dance group.
If I'm not wrong, this was the performance put up on 1st July last year at TPJC. Although it is not the complete video, it gives you an idea on how 'power' Angklung and Malay Dance can be.
Congrats to the JC1s who make it to NJC. All your hard work through your O levels had paid dividends. JC life is indeed different from what you 've expereineced througout your secondary days. It's gonna be a mixture of fun and never ending stress.
To further emphasize on what I've said yesterday during practice, I do hope that all of you(JC 1 and 2) will reflect upon yourself and rediscover the "confuco" ( Dzul, correct me if I'm wrong)within you so as to be able to do justice to the song that we will be playing for SYF.
Do bear in mind that all those things that I mention about the added stress that you will feel once SYF started are all true. Once other CCAs start getting their SYF results and announcing it during the morning assembly...you will then realise what I told you are indeed the truth. ( Maybe the grand seniors or even the super grand seniors who had gone through it will be able to vouch for me.).
You know what guys, a lot of people believed in our abilities. For the past 3 years, we've shown the college that Angklung Ensemble is not just a mediocre CCA. We've managed to place Angklung Ensemble high up along the other so called more prestige CCAs as such we are able to experience and get what we requested for eg ability to appeal for students, increase in budget, invitation to perform etc.all these were never experienced by your seniors before 2005!!
But, more importantly, like I've stressed on for so many times, Angklung Ensemble is about you guys. I want Angklung to be able to provide the opportunities for the members to excel in not only leadeship ability but also academically. I want you guys to be able to reflect back when you graduated from NJC and to be able to say that you 've benefitted from joining NJC Angklung Ensemble or NJC Angklung had made you into a better person.
Enjoy your 1 week break and hope that after the holiday practices, we will be all passionate and geared to perform for SYF.
Below are some of the excerpts from yesterdays practice.
Last Friday was the moment of truth for the seniors (or grand seniors) who took their A-levels last year.
Congrats to Joyce, Ilona, Yijun, Constance, Zhengliang, Azhar and Jieying for getting good results. I think Ahmad also did well, judging from his reactions when he got his results. I am sure some other seniors also did well.
For the JC1s, their moment of truth was earlier in the morning when they had to perform to welcome the Hunan guests. Although sometimes they missed the beats, but with more practice, they will improve. The future is promising. I hope that we can attract more promising people to join this group and most of the present people can stay.
For Angklung, the moment of truth is coming soon. On 24th March, which is about three weeks away, we will be travelling to the Singapore Conference Hall (SCH) for our SYF rehearsal. Our time slot is 0845 - 1000, which means that we all have to assemble at SCH at 0815. Further details will be released later after the JC2 Common Test when I have a chance to discuss with the exco on the arrangements for that day.
And of course our SYF central judging day is coming soon. We are still waiting for the actual date but it should be in April.
What ever the moment of truth is, we must all do our best to achieve our target, which is the Gold with Honours award. If we can get it, then we will go down in the history of NJC as one of the best ever performing Angklung Ensembles. If not, I am not thinking about it.
For the JC2s, good luck for the Common Test. And like how I always end of my messages whenever Xuesi messaged me last week, happy studying!
