Dear all,
I am glad to say that tickets for Reminiscence are COMPLETELY sold out!
I am still waiting for the Esplanade to confirm the number of seats we have. I am presently working on a conservative estimate and hopefully I can release more tickets so that more NJC students can attend the concert.
I am heartened by the support shown by NJCians and the alumni.
IMPORTANT NEWS for the alumni:
Please reserve your tickets by today 11.59pm. Please pay for your tickets ($14 nett/ticket) by next Friday (4th April) or else your reservation will be cancelled. This is because we have limited tickets and I don't want any ticket to be wasted. Moreover we have a long list of reservations made by students.
Please come down to college to pay. There will be practices everyday next week so you can pay any exco member who will then pass the money to me. If you cannot make it to school, you can transfer the money to me via Internet banking. Message me and I will message you my bank account number.
Your tickets will be issued to you either if you pay me directly face to face or on the day of the concert itself.
Please refer to this blog for more updates or you can contact me if you have any queries.

Helloz everyone, today was the first of more intensive practices for the following two weeks b4 our concert arrives! Are you guys excited??? I know that today, many j1s were having problems following Wave of Hope, Reverie and Zapin...well since they're heavyweight songs, this is expected. But don't worry, the seniors are there to help you. Approach any of us if you ever need help okays? We don't bite. And today being the first practice that we're all standing up to play, there's a different feel to it, isn't it? Some of you might be suffering from leg-ache now, but this is for your own good so that you can have ample practice squatting, picking up angklungs with grace and of course also to play standing. The concert is just two weeks away...so bear with the pain in your legs, hands and all ok? We'll pull through this together as a TEAM and at the end of it, I assure you 100% satisfaction with the performance that we're going to put up.ANGKLUNG OI!!!

Hello everyone....
Its been 3 months since I left NJC but throughout those 3 months, I've been reading this blog every single day, keeping up with the changes and the improvements to the ensemble and also keeping track with the development of the first ever NJC Angklung Ensemble solo concert!!!!In fact, has been looking forward to this day for the past 9 years and come 10 April, all this will be realised. I'm sure the seniors or the super super seniors will be very proud of what you guys had achieved all his while.
To all current members of NJC Angklung, be proud of what you've achieved. Be proud of your very own ensemble and always remember that
YOU make the difference and YOU are the difference!!I'm sure 10 April will be a BLAST and I'm sure Mr Dzul, Mr Tan and Miss Raha have great believe in each and everyone of you who are performing including the Alumni. As much as I would lke to be there every single practice and feel the same excitement that I always feel when plannning for Angklung activities, I know that it is not always possible. But rest assured that I am doing my part publisizing the concert to every individual that I meet whether they are ex NJC ANgklungnite or not.
Get excited now, get the whole college talking about the concert now, get the whole Singapore ANgklung fraternity buzzing about your concert now, get the whole NJC Angklung Ensemble eager to perform now.....and all this have to start from each and everyone of you. YOU hold the key to the success of this concert.YOU determine the quality of this concert. YOU decide who to come for this concert...so, take charge and make the difference and for the current seniors, leave a mark when you leave NJC Angklung...leave a positive mark and when best to start but now.
Best of luck to all of you...lets Reminiscene open the door to the future of NJC ANgklung Ensemble..a truly bright future.
The guru...
Hey Peeps! take note of your own duty slots for the week!(
everyone has more than one slot btw! so remember to keep a look out for your name!) anyone who cannot make it for their slots will have to tell me by tonight in order for me to make appropiate changes.
For those on duty for the day,
report outside the
angklung room by
7.10AM in the morning as the excos will brief you on the instructions and pass you the food to sell for the day.
Attendence will be taken so make sure you are there on time!WAHAHA!
You are suppose to note the number of food and shirts sold during your duty and make sure that the money and the no. of items sold tally. If they dont tally..... hehe... members will hafta fork out money themselves. So make sure you
handle the money carefully!!!
Tentatively, this will be the schedule. Pls check the blog
everyday in case there are any changes.
remember to bring along some
change(coins or notes) with you for your duty slot.
I wanna urge everybody to really put in effort for the sale of the items.I understand that everyone of you have at least two duty slots for the week and its really tiring! But i strongly believe that with everyone's effort we will definitely be able to overcome this and raise enough money for the concert! (: So i seek everyone's cooperation in this.

Hie there people! The concert is coming! i know each and everyone of u have been working very very hard for it. Practices are getting intensive now, this is crucial becos we want to deliver only the best, and the best it will be. This is a good experience for each n everyone of u, there are so many things that u can learn from it, and i guarantee u that this is something that will stay w you for the rest of ur life. You dont get to see or be involved in this kind of production every day, or u wont see it in any textbooks, and this is something that cannot be taught in a classroom...so..cherish these moments, learn as much as u can and most importantly always stay together as one.
Keep up the good work....and press on!

Hello people...the following post is taken from my blog, i thought i post it here as well, u guys hv worked so hard, its time to sell some 'koyok' like hell. Hope that the following ppost will do justice on wat u hv put urself into
20 to 30 years ago the angklung was regarded as 'lembek' (soft n weak) and definitely not for a guy who wants to look macho and rugged, that was the mindset that youngsters hv during my time. Even now, theres this stigma still looming around but no as much as before. I too hv the same mindset when i picked up the instrument back then, but the urge to know and to try overcame all that thoughts. In fact if i passed that opportunity to learn, i wouldnt be doing wat i'm doing rite now! Moral of the story is, treat all opportunities as important as ur life and give it a try, u'll never know that it'll be ur bread n butter sooner or later.
Now back to that mindset of angklung being weak n 'lembek'. U'll never know till u try it....seriously. The level and standard of angklung playing has risen up tremendously, music arrangement are more complex now, players are now more exposed to challenging pieces which are meant for other musical instruments/ensemble. Angklung score used to be simple straightforward single layered... playing only the melody line, even with this simple arrgt it can be quite challenging as each player can only play one single note unlike other instruments. Now, the arrgt has developed...even for myself, i will add more harmonies and layers in my music arrgt for angklung, experimenting and creating new techniques and push the competency level of players to the very limit, and walla! u hv the new vibrant sound of angklung. That's the reason i feel very proud for my students (who are mostly girls)....i know its not easy, physically and mentally and i bet some boys wouldnt hv the stamina to last the whole song.... and i purposely arrange the songs in such a way, physically and mentally demanding, to prove that angklung is not a 'lembek' instrument meant for the soft heart.
To the rest of the readers out there, u can see and hear for urself and be surprise...my NJC's angklung ensemble will be having their first solo concert at the esplanade recital studio on thurs 10th Apr, and most of the songs that they'll be playing are songs which hv not been scored to n played on angklung before, eg Gun N Roses' Sweet Child 'O Mine and Gypsy King's version of My Way. Let me knoe early if u need the tix...its selling fast!

Last but not least, pls rmb to print out all the scores and DO memorise them by end of march holidays! It would be good if you familarise yourself with the tune, so you dont even need to memorise and will naturally know when to come in for ur note!
For J1s, pls consult ur "fellow note senior" to teach u if u are not sure of the sequence of any songs or how to play etc, this is because for some songs, modifications were made and were not stated on the scores. I'm sure all the j2s will be glad to help u guys =))
okay, see u ppl on wed (1630-1930)! Happy weekend! :)
