Hi y'all, this site been dormant for quite some time.....I do hope you people are doing something constructive with your time if you are not updating this blog. IThe newbies have not written anything on this blog before rite?? What happen? They are aware of the existence of this site and been invited to join in rite??
Anyways.....yup, May gonna be really exciting. I mean, we've been dormant all this while and occasionally perform in college here once or twice and recently the Enrichment day was a blast but...whats coming up in the May and July are the REAL thing!!!You guys been practicing hard and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to
8 and 9 May to perform at the Esplanade Concourse. For the newbies ie the Yr1 and IPs, this will be it. Your very first public performance and I assure you that its gonna feel great. So, tell all your friend and family and relatives and invite them all to your performance on the 8 or 9 May ok.
Of course the next big thing coming up is the 20 May College Day.It is a Big thing and remember, every rehearsals matter and for the newbies, ask the seniors if you don't believe me ok. I mean, try playing a fool or performing not up to par on the rehearsals and you will definitely be reprimanded in front of All, yup all the performers!!! So, 10 May will be your ltmus test.
As we prepare for all that, remember that we are buiilding all these up for our Concert in July. That is definitely going to be a bomb.
For the Yr 2s, I understand that some of you are not happy that we are performing so many times....come on guys....I don't think you should even complain!!All performers want to have a chance to perform and I suppose you too rite, So, it's a privilege to be invited to perfrom and like I said the last time, seize the opportunities cause it sometime comes only once. Remember, the future of Angklung ie whether we get invited again or not depends on your performance. In fact, you guys are contributiing to the future generation of Angklung players in NJC as such they will always be invited to perform in years to come.
This is indeed a long e mail but I could not leave out another 2 important performances. one is one the 8 JUly where you are invited to perform in a concert at Fort Canning Park to a crowd or probably 4000 people. Still awaiting for confirmation on this. Another one is on 16 July at Suntec for National Heritage Festival and most probably will be the swansong performance for the Yr2s. So, get excited guys and inform all that matters to attend ok.

Enrichment prog was ace! well done people...proud of u guys. This can only be achieved becos u've put in effort, i am sure the feeling of putting up a good show cannot be described in words...the satisfaction, the adrenalin rush the the...see cannot describe osso. More great performances coming up soon.
The J1s, that was ur debut performance in front of fellow school mates.....Esplanade will be ur debut performance to the world...i mean to the public, and its happening on the 8th and 9th of May, exactly one month from now.
Seniors, u have done well in guiding the J1s to adapt as quickly as possible to the life of angklungs, I thank you for that.
One advice to all, plan your time. All of you now know of all the performance dates...and our practices, plse arrange your schedules...manage your time... Everything and anything can be achieved with a good time management, of course plus discipline. Nothing is impossible, just put ur heart to it.
Seeya on Wednesday!(12/4)

hey angklungnites,
i'm not even sure if anyone comes here to read the blog often... in any case, i want to say tt i'm extremely proud of all of you!
all: today was an extremely fruitful prac! sure, we're not playing perfectly yet but it was very well done considering our timeframe! btw, pls do get pple to come for enrichment, we don't want all our effort to go to waste, alright?
j2s: i know how it is like to juggle many activities and still have to do well. okok, maybe not the 'do well' part. the main thing i want to say is tt i'm very glad tt you all have made tht special effort to come for practices these few times, you can't imagine how much it means to us, the exco, to see you all prepare hard for the enrichment even though you were only informed last Sat [although it does seem like eons ago now...]
ips/j1s: it's especially nice to see tt the new members have assimilated into the CCA quite well, some of you, well, it's still your 2nd/3rd prac today! it's still a long rd ahead but i see much potential and enthusiasm in you all! keep up the spirit!
mr fuad: i hope the pub stunt turned out well? from what i heard, a few pple stopped by the booth to say it was gd! =) i only hope tt fri turns out just as gd! i've been trying to talk to my juniors outside of CCA and everyone seems to think tt signing up for the enrichment is equivalent to signing up as members... i've said tt it's not the case but they're still pondering... well, we still have thurs & fri for sign-up!
mr tan: you can tell the diff tt mr dzul has on our ensemble! there're many times when i wonder what if i can ever inspire the CCA like he does but i guess i'm much too strict [and not quite tactful in putting things across]. i, too, hope tt the j1s will stay and continue to perpetuate our CCA in sch. like mr dzul says, we're gg to have to get 'gold with honours' at the next SYF!
so yup everyone! i know i'm almost 'dictatorial' during prac but i really want for us to do as best as we can and quite frankly, i know no other way to tell you all to do tt... i may be stressing you all out so i'm super thankful tt there's the guys to diffuse the tension sometimes. i hope you all understand where i'm coming from, alright? =)

Looks like we are all set to go this Friday. Tomorrow will be the pub stunts and I have great faith that it's gonna be an awesome pubstunt. As for Friday, I do hope that you guys are encouraging your friends, classmates, tutors, parents, loved ones etc to attend ok.
Many people do not know that Angklung ensemble has other instruments besides the angklung, so lets educate them.Don't let remarks from your friends about Angklung bring your spirit down cos it certainly will not tear away my spirit. For me, if I approach 1 individual and he/she turned me down, I will go around and appproach 3 more individuals.
For the Yr 1s, this will be your debut....I wish you well and rest assured this will definitely not be your last.
So, lets rock the amphitheatre this Friday and enjoy ourselves ok. ( Thak you Mr Zul for pointing out the mistake) By the way, the National Heritage Festival seems to be quite a big thing ie MOE National Education Branch are looking through it too.

Last Saturday was a great jamming session. By far, that was the most impressive display I ever seen of the NJC Angklung Ensemble.
Why can't we call the practice sessions jamming sessions instead? I think it sounds more cool!
What I say (and heard) last Saturday was an example of teamwork. I think Constance got it right in the script she emailed me and a few others when she wrote that while an angklung can only play a note or a chord, but a combination of angklungs can produce a melodious tune.
The point I'm trying to make is that we are a team and every member is important. I compared the faces I saw during the Wednesday practices I attended and last Saturday. While I am glad that there were new members who joined us just last week (confirmed by Joyce), I am also disappointed that some members have left us after JAE. What is more disappointing is that I heard that there are some members who are still considering whether to quit the team.
What I want to tell these members is: No matter what role you play in the team, you are very important to us. Think about the effort your seniors have invested into training you. Think about the hopes your seniors have placed on you. Think about all you have achieved in these few months. Think about what you can achieve in the time to come!
Think about all these seriously before you make a decision. Please.
Lastly, all the best for the upcoming enrichment session this Friday. The emcee Noreen please don't get stage fright, we are all here to support you. I'm sure you can do it!
