Today's farewell event was well-planned. This is all due to the diligence and hardwork of the juniors. Well done!
Today's farewell event was also a tearjerker. When Shuxian turned around to address the ensemble, I almost wanted to cry but I distracted myself by thinking of other matters.
Since my recorded message was so botched, I think I better pay a proper tribute to the seniors.
First and foremost, I would like to thank all the seniors for spending so much time and effort in coming for practices and giving your best in performances. You could have joined another CCA whose commitments are not that heavy and not require you to practise and perform on weekends.
I hope that you will bring with you memories of the times you spent in Angklung. These should be the memories you recall when you flashback to the times you spent in college and you should relate these memories to people who ask you about your college life.
Without the hard work and commitment, the ensemble would not have been able to scale great heights and earn a reputation of being one of the top Angklung Ensembles in Singapore. If external organisations do not trust that you will give your best performances on stage, will they dare to invite you? Will they be brave enough to present a substandard product to the public and to guests such as ministers and our President?
I hope this CCA will help you realise that unity is strength. An angklung can only play a single note and not produce a melody. But when fifty angklungs come together, then we have Wave of Hope, Zapin etc, songs which touch people. Who can imagine that a collection of single note instruments can be so well-coordinated to produce such harmony? Never forget this. Unity is strength.
It is always sad to see a batch of students leave the ensemble because I always ask myself, if these people can stay longer, perhaps they can improve even further? However, I am forced to admire the legacy they leave behind.
To all the seniors, now it is time to give your 100% to the A-levels exams. I wish you all the best in your A-level exams and your future endeavors. Do keep in touch.
Lastly, thank you for all the gifts. I like Yanmin's brownies! It's yummy! Also thanks for the messages of gratitude from Xuesi and Jenny. I was just performing my duties. Without the students' efforts, whatever the teachers do will be in vain.
